LUÍS NEVES WELCOMES LÍGIA PINTO DE ALMEIDA AND BEIT REM-KABOD IN VICTIM SUPPORT
By Lígia Pinto de Almeida
Diplomat and President of Beit Rem-Kabod
"Where there is no counsel, plans fail, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety." — Proverbs 11:14
In times of geopolitical uncertainty and growing challenges in Europe, a country's security is not built in isolation.
It is built with vision, firmness, and, above all, cooperation between State institutions and civil society.
At the invitation of the Ministry of Internal Administration, I had the honor and privilege of attending the press conference led by the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves.
It was a moment of civic reflection on the path Portugal and the European Union must follow in combating the global threats of our time:
organized crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism.
The Right Leadership for Demanding Times
The choice of Luís Neves for the Internal Administration portfolio reflects the need for leadership with a proven track record on the ground.
With decades dedicated to criminal investigation and combating extremism—from his role as National Director of the Judiciary Police (Polícia Judiciária) to leading the National Counter-Terrorism Unit—the Minister's career is marked by rigorous experience and top-tier international training, including the prestigious FBI National Academy.
In a Europe under constant pressure from new and complex criminal networks, relying on someone who deeply understands the dynamics of violent crime, cybercrime, and radicalization is a guarantee of sovereignty and peace of mind for our citizens.
Beit Rem-Kabod: By the Side of Victims, On the Front Lines of Prevention
As President of the Beit Rem-Kabod Victim Support Association, I renew our commitment to human protection.
Our association works daily on the front lines supporting victims of:
- Domestic violence and intimidation;
- Bullying and cybercrime;
- Violent crimes, homicide, and terrorism.
The recognition by the Ministry of Internal Administration in welcoming Beit Rem-Kabod as a strategic and cooperative partner in fighting crime and safeguarding the most vulnerable is a decisive step.
Combating crime does not rely solely on police action; it demands a solid, empathetic support network for those who suffer its consequences.
The Commitment to Social Peace
The biblical motto adopted by the Israel Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations—"In an abundance of counselors there is safety"—reminds us that a nation's peace depends on the ability to join forces and listen to those who serve.
All Portuguese citizens who truly love Portugal understand that Defense and Security are not mere political concepts:
they are the foundation upon which rests the daily freedom of every family, every child, and every citizen.
Without security, there is no stability; without stability, there is no peace.
To the Minister of Internal Administration, Dr. Luís Neves, I extend—on my own behalf and on behalf of the Beit Rem-Kabod Victim Support Association—my fraternal and heartfelt thanks for the warm reception, institutional determination, and vision for a safe and resilient Portugal.
